Who we are

We exist to help seekers and believers become fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ

Why we exist

Our mission is “to help seekers and believers become fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ.” We endeavour to orient our entire church and its ministries around this goal of seeing everyone transformed into a fully devoted follower of Jesus. Our conviction is that this is what Jesus has asked His church to do in Matthew 28:18-20:

Matthew 28:18-20

And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

This is the never moving target on the horizon that we are always marching towards. We want to prayerfully and faith-fully be seeing people become fully devoted followers of Jesus.

How we do ministry

We have three core values at CA Church: Grace, Gifts and Growth. We call this our 3G Model. These are the operating principles that we prayerfully, strategically and intentionally conform our culture to.

Grace

We want to be a church that celebrates grace.

We recognize that all of life is because of God’s grace: the air we breathe, the ministry we are invited into and the lives that are transformed. Additionally, we recognize that God’s greatest act of grace was in the sending of his Son to die for sin. We consistently want to be celebrating God’s gracious kindness towards us in salvation and his continual work in our lives.

We want to be a church that loves our neighbour as ourselves and loves God with all our soul, heart, mind and strength.

In this way Jesus summarized simply what a follower of His should do. We want to be a church that lives this out vertically and horizontally.

Gifts

We want to be a church that serves like Jesus.

Jesus radically changed the way leadership was seen: with a towel over his arm. In the same way, we want to be a church that serves passionately and humbly. What else could our response be to a God who has served us so completely and humbly?

We want to be a church that equips and sends people out into ministry.

Jesus not only saves but also equips. We believe that all people have a contribution to the body of Christ and should be actively using their gifts to honour Jesus. Therefore we want to be “equipping the saints for works of service,” as Paul instructed Timothy (Eph. 4:13).

Growth

We want to be a church that passionately worships and magnifies the greatness of God.

An old hymn summarizes this desire well: “Turn your eyes upon Jesus, look full in his wonderful face, and the things of earth will grow strangely dim, in the light of His glory and grace.” As we worship Jesus for who he is, we are brought more in line with his will and desires for us. Our corporate and small group experiences at our church are oriented around the Triune God.

We want to be a church that is boldly submissive to and unashamedly empowered by the Holy Spirit.

Jesus did not leave us to ourselves but sent the Spirit to guide, convict, empower and abide with his followers. We want to be a church that is fully yielded to and is unreservedly filled with the Holy Spirit. This means faith, risk and mission.

Where we are going (20/20 Vision)

Much prayer and work have been done by our Elders and Staff to formulate a vision for the next 5 years of ministry. We have sought the Lord to ask what all of this looks like. We know why we exist (to see seekers and believers become fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ) and we know how we are going to do that (Grace, Gifts and Growth), but what does this practically look like? We have formulated Faith Prayers under our 3G’s.

Grace

1. An expanded Mariner campus that serves the mission
2. 365 Roses (people who surrender their life to Jesus every year)
3. Demonstrate extravagant generosity to our community by giving more to the Tri-Cities than any other organization

Gifts

1. Everyone gives (we want to see a continual increase in giving units every year that matches our average attendance)
2. Everyone serves (everyone who calls CA Church home is actively using their gifts and serves Jesus)
3. Equips and develops leaders for ministry
By 20/20 we want to have had 30 interns, 10 pastoral apprentices and 3 Church planting apprentices

Growth

1. 365 Baptisms
2. We become a network of 5 campuses or churches
3. Give 1 million away to our global partners
4. 2500 weekly attendance by 2020

Statement of Faith

  1. God
There is one God,1 who is infinitely perfect,2 existing eternally in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.3
  2. Jesus
Jesus Christ is true God and true man.4 He was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary.5 He died upon the cross, the Just for the unjust, as a substitutionary sacrifice, and all who believe in Him are justified on the ground of His shed blood. He arose from the dead according to the Scriptures.6 He is now at the right hand of the Majesty on high as our great High Priest.7 He will come again to establish His kingdom of righteousness and peace.8
  3. Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit is a divine Person, sent to indwell,9 guide, teach and empower the believer, and to convince the world of sin, of righteousness and of judgment.10
  4. Bible
The Old and New Testaments, inerrant as originally given, were verbally inspired by God and are a complete revelation of His will for the salvation of people. They constitute the divine and only rule of Christian faith and practice.11
  5. Sin
Humankind, originally created in the image and likeness of God,12 fell through disobedience, incurring thereby both physical and spiritual death. All people are born with a sinful nature, are separated from the life of God, and can be saved only through the atoning work of the Lord Jesus Christ.13 The destiny of the impenitent and unbelieving is existence forever in conscious torment, but that of the believer is everlasting joy and bliss.14
  6. Freedom from Sin
Salvation has been provided only through Jesus Christ. Those who repent and believe in Him are united with Christ through the Holy Spirit and are thereby regenerated (born again), justified, sanctified and granted the gift of eternal life as adopted children of God.15
  7. Christian Living
It is the will of God that in union with Christ each believer should be sanctified thoroughly16 thereby being separated from sin and the world and fully dedicated to God, receiving power for holy living and sacrificial and effective service toward the completion of Christ’s commission.17
This is accomplished through being filled with the Holy Spirit which is both a distinct event and progressive experience in the life of the believer.18
  8. Healing
Provision is made in the redemptive work of the Lord Jesus Christ for the healing of the mortal body. Prayer for the sick and anointing with oil as taught in the Scriptures are privileges for the Church in this present age.19
  9. Church
The universal Church, of which Christ is the Head, consists of all those who believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, are redeemed through His blood, regenerated by the Holy Spirit, and commissioned by Christ to go into all the world as a witness, preaching the Gospel to all nations.20

The local church, the visible expression of the universal Church, is a body of believers in Christ who are joined together to worship God, to observe the ordinances of Baptism and the Lord’s Supper, to pray, to be edified through the Word of God, to fellowship, and to testify in word and deed to the good news of salvation both locally and globally. The local church enters into relationships with other like-minded churches for accountability, encouragement and mission.21

  10. Life after death
There shall be a bodily resurrection of the just and of the unjust; for the former, a resurrection unto life;22 for the latter, a resurrection unto judgment.23
  11. Second Coming of Christ
The second coming of the Lord Jesus Christ is imminent and will be personal and visible.24 As the believer’s blessed hope, this vital truth is an incentive for holy living and sacrificial service toward the completion of Christ’s commission.25
